The Grand Hotel Golf Resort and Spa has anchored Point Clear since 1847 and is known as the Queen of Southern Resorts. It sits on 550 acres on Mobile Bay, served as a hospital during the Civil War and a training ground in World War II, and was fully renovated in 2018. The Lakewood Club is affiliated with the Grand, with 36 holes on the Dogwood and Azalea courses and greens local golfers consider the best around, rolling as fast as 13 on the Stimpmeter for special events. A Lakewood membership includes use of the club’s pools, tennis, and fitness center plus member discounts at the Grand’s restaurants, spa, and shops. For many Point Clear residents, the Grand is their country club.

Point Clear Club is the newest private club in Point Clear: a members-only club and residential community on more than 650 acres, built around an 18-hole championship course designed by Tom Fazio. Plans include a clubhouse and grille overlooking the back nine, championship practice facilities, a resort-style pool, fitness center and spa, tennis and pickleball, croquet lawns, and boating and fishing access. Play is limited to members and their guests. The full 18 holes are expected to open in 2027, with about 310 homesites for custom homes.

Point Clear is small, but it’s known for fine dining. The Wash House on Scenic Highway 98 serves locally sourced coastal cuisine in a rustic, fine-dining setting and is a longtime favorite for special occasions. Char 32 is a classic steakhouse in the clubhouse at the Point Clear Tennis Club, known for its steaks, fresh local seafood, and wine list. The Grand Hotel adds several more options, from casual bayside dining to its lounges and Sunday brunch. Reservations are recommended at all of them.

Point Clear’s bayfront is lined with historic homes, some dating back generations, set under live oaks with long private piers stretching into Mobile Bay. Owners use their wharves for fishing, crabbing, and watching the sunset, and Point Clear is one of the places where Mobile Bay’s famous summer jubilees happen. The Eastern Shore Trail runs along Scenic Highway 98 for walking and biking.
