The town and Baldwin County are also splitting the cost of a roughly $4 million project on County Road 49 between Highway 98 and the Magnolia River, with a wider walking path set back from the road and improved intersections.

Magnolia Springs sits right on some of the best backwater fishing on the Gulf Coast. The Magnolia River and nearby Fish River both flow into Weeks Bay, a protected National Estuarine Research Reserve, and that mix of fresh and salt water means you can catch speckled trout and redfish one minute and largemouth bass the next. Lately anglers have also hooked the occasional snook, a tropical fish usually found in South Florida that’s been showing up more often in Alabama waters. Mobile Bay, with its flounder, specks, reds, and white trout, is just beyond Weeks Bay. You need an Alabama saltwater fishing license.

Riverfront homes here are prized for their docks and boat access to Weeks Bay and Mobile Bay.
